I hate pedicures. Yes I said it. Pedicures will never be part of my self-care routine. Smoothies are not going to be on the list either. It has taken me awhile but I finally have a list of what things help me feel the way I want to feel. And usually I want to either feel energized, calm and nourished.
To feel that way means I choose walking in a park over going to a gym class, watching the birds in my backyard instead of going to a coffee shop (pre-pandemic) and soup for breakfast.
Now my friend, you may look at those things and think not in a million years would any of those things help me feel the way I want to feel. Bring on the spin class, pedicures with my besties and dinner out at a new restaurant (again pre-pandemic dreams!)
Here’s a key piece to the self-care puzzle. In order to work for you, self care activities need to resonate with you. Watch this quick 3 minute video on self-awareness to get you thinking about what types of self care activities work for you.
What are the places, activities and things that help you feel your best? Can you make a list of 10? There are no right or wrong answers – the key is to know yourself.
And have some fun experimenting with things you think might make you feel the way you want to feel. I’ve been thinking a pottery class would be something that might help me feel energized and calm…it’s on my bucket list of things to try once this pandemic is past us.
I’d love to hear from you. What are your go-to activities for helping you feel your best? Anyone else like soup for breakfast? Or margaritas with a salted rim on a hot July day?
Excuse me while I get my blender out,
P.S. Child friendly margaritas for the children in above picture – however I’m having difficulty remembering what the deal was with the candy canes…
